Hearing aids typically last 5-7 years. When properly cared for hearing aids can last even longer. To get the most out of your hearing aids it’s important to clean them regularly, store them in a safe place when not in use, and bring them in for maintenance. If you ever damage your hearing aids we can repair them for you, so you don’t have to feel obligated to purchase a new pair.
The adjustment period is different for everyone. Depending on the degree of your hearing loss and how long you’ve had hearing loss can influence the time needed to adjust to hearing sounds again. It can take anywhere from a couple of weeks to a few months for your ears and brain to adjust. It’s important to remain positive and patient though. The more often you wear your hearing aids then the quicker you will adjust to better hearing.
We encourage you to bring a friend or family member with you to your appointments. Having someone familiar with you can help you feel more comfortable and they can also help you retain more information. If you bring your spouse with you that also gives us the opportunity to go over expectations they can have and help them understand how hearing aids will help you.
If you have hearing loss then it will continue to gradually worsen over time. Although hearing aids do not reverse the effects of hearing loss, they will drastically slow down the rate at which your hearing digresses. Untreated hearing loss is linked to cognitive decline, so it’s important to manage your hearing loss with hearing aids in order to keep your brain hearing its best.
Hearing aids will allow you to hear sounds you haven’t heard in years. Hearing aids cannot restore your hearing back to what it was before you had hearing loss, but they will allow you to hear significantly better. Hearing aids are designed to enhance sound quality, provide clarity, and amplify sounds.
In order to ensure your hearing aids last you for many years, it’s important to clean them daily. Every time you remove your devices from your ears you should wipe them off with a dry cloth. This will remove any wax or dust particles. It is also crucial to bring them in every 6 months for a deep cleaning. We can professionally clean your hearing aids, removing any wax or dirt that has become embedded within the components. This will ensure they continue providing you with optimal hearing for many years.
